WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Demon Deacons jumped out to a 6-1 lead, but Boston College battled back to score the next nine runs to defeat Wake Forest, 10-7, at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park on Sunday afternoon.
Boston College's (13-16, 5-9 ACC) Chris Shaw was locked in at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with three homers, including a grand slam, a double and seven RBIs to carry the Eagles.
For Wake Forest (21-13, 8-7 ACC), Nate Mondou homered for the fourth consecutive game. He finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs, along with a moonshot for his ninth homer of 2015 for his 100th career hit.
Will Craig added a three-hit game of his own, including a double and run scored. Joey Rodriguez blasted a three-run homer in the second inning, which gave the Deacons the 6-1 lead.
In addition to Shaw's big game, walks doomed the Demon Deacon pitching staff. Wake Forest allowed nine free passes, four of which came around to score.
The Eagles rallied back to tie the game in the fifth. After a walk, single and walk to start the inning, Shaw, a lefty, flicked a first-pitch outside fastball over the left-field wall to make the score 6-5. An RBI single later in the inning evened the score at 6-6.
Shaw broke the tie the next inning with another solo homer. Then, Boston College scored an unearned run in the seventh before Shaw homered for the third time in the eighth, pushing the lead to 9-6.
Gavin Sheets, Nick Bisplinghoff and Rodriguez all reached base in the eighth, before a bases-loaded popout got BC out of the inning.
Another leadoff walk came around to score for Boston College in the ninth to make the score 10-6.
In the bottom of the inning, Craig doubled and scored on a Stuart Fairchild RBI single, before a game-ending double play halted Wake Forest's comeback chance.
Justin Dunn (3-2) was strong out of the pen for Boston College, earning the win by tossing 4.1 shutout frames, striking out five. Paul Kirkpatrick (2-2) took the loss for the Demon Deacons.
Fairchild, Sheets and Rodriguez all posted multi-hit games for the Deacons, as Wake Forest out-hit Boston College 14-11.
Fairchild (16 games) and Mondou (14) surpassed their career-long hitting streaks, while Craig (14) matched his.
The Demon Deacons hit the road for nine of the next 10 games, beginning with a trip to UNCG on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
