Merckle Competes at USTF Senior Championships

EUGENE, Ore. - Rising senior Jessie Merckle competed in the javelin and finished 15th place with a top distance of 49.19m (161-4) at the USATF Senior Championships on Friday at Historic Hayward Field.
Despite finishing 15th, Merckle faced against some tough competition, including some of the top NCAA competitors and professionals from NIKE and ASICS.
This season , she has earned All-ACC First Team honors finishing second in Tallahassee, Fla., and followed that up with an All-American performance at the NCAA Championships with her second-best throw of her career and a season-best toss of 53.29m (174-10). She also took first place in the javelin at the Wake Forest Open.
Wake Forest rising sophomore John Maurins launched a winning toss of 21.90m (71-10.25) in the shot put and set an American junior record in the process on Friday afternoon at the USATF Junior Championships.
