Krall, Collins Win at JDL Combined Events

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Alexander Krall won the men's heptathlon and Amy Collins won the women's pentathlon at the JDL Combined Events meet Sunday and Monday at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem.
Krall, a senior, finished with a final score of 4927, beating out Bethune-Cookman's Brent Heholt, who placed second with a final tally of 4270. It was the first heptathlon title of Krall's career.
The Buffalo, N.Y. native won the 60m dash, clocking in at 7.30m. He also won the shot put with a 13.01m mark and tied for first with a 4.40m pole vault. Krall took third in both the high jump and the 60m hurdles.
On the women's side, Collins took the pentathlon title with a 3410 score. It was the first collegiate win of its kind for the Holden, Mass. native. She edged out Bethune-Cookman's Summer Brown, who finished with 3184 total points to claim the top spot. There were 20 total athletes competing.
Sparking Collins' first-place finish was a winning 2:27.66 time in the 800m. She also came in second in the high jump, third in the shot put and long jump and fifth in the 60m hurdles.
Next week, Wake Forest will compete outside of Winston-Salem for the first time this season when it heads to the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. The Deacs then return close to home for the Camel City Invitational.
