Demon Deacons with Strong Showing at Pre-National Invitational

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Demon Deacons were in action for the final time before the ACC Championships Saturday (Oct. 15), as the Deacs ran at the Pre-National Invitational. Wake Forest's women's team finished second overall out of the 25-team White Division while the men's squad took eighth out of 20 in the men's White Division.
Harry Warnick was the top finisher on either side as his 8k time of 24:53.8 led the senior to a third-place finish. Mimi Smith paced the women's team in the 6k, claiming 12th in a time of 21:34.4.
The Deacs received back-to-back top-20 finishes as Ellie Abrahamson (21:40.7) and Samantha Halvorsen (21:41.1) placed 15th and 16th, respectively. Craig Corti just snuck into a top-20 finish, placing 20th with a time of 25:26.3.
The women scored a total of 131 points, falling just 17 points shy of the division champion Oregon State. Wake Forest's men tied Marquette for seventh with 228 points, but officially finished eighth on a tiebreaker.
Wake Forest has two weeks to prepare for the ACC Championships, which will be held October 28 in Cary, N.C.
