LUBBOCK, Texas – Wake Forest junior Will Craig was earned a spot on the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award watch list, the National College Baseball Hall of Fame announced on Wednesday afternoon.
The award is named for the former Washington State University standout who achieved success both as a first baseman and left-handed pitcher during the late 1980s and who was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007. The award will be presented as part of the Hall of Fame's Night of Champions celebration July 1-2 in Lubbock.
Craig has had a standout season both at the plate and on the mound. The Johnson City, Tennessee native is hitting .435 with 11 homers, 13 doubles and 47 RBIs to go along with a .556 on-base percentage.
He has served as a co-closer out of the bullpen, holding a 1-0 record and 1.80 ERA, and is tied for the team lead with five saves.
Craig was also on the watch list for the award a year ago, when it was won by Louisville's Brendan McKay. There are 24 student-athletes currently on the watch list, with the ACC leading all conferences with five. Craig and McKay are joined by Georgia Tech's Brandon Gold and Virginia's Kevin Doherty and Adam Haseley.
Wake Forest returns home this weekend, playing host to No. 13 North Carolina from Friday-Sunday.
