JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition at the NCAA East Preliminaries at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. on Friday. Six Demon Deacons competed in four events on the day.
After qualifying for the men's 800m regional final with a fourth-place showing on Thursday in the first round, Robert Heppenstall won his heat and came in fourth again on Friday to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Heppenstall finished with a time of 1:47.11.
Fellow Deacon Simon Holden also qualified for the region's final 800m dash, but placed 19th with a time of 1:49.96, just 1.55 seconds behind the final Nationals qualifier.
The remainder of the Deacs to compete on Friday did so in field events.
Sydney White's pole vault mark of 4.20m placed her 15th. Teammate Kathleen Adair's 3.95m height slotted her in 40th. Max Adams placed 18th in the men's discus with a personal record throw of 55.41m, while Alexandria Florent took 36th in the women's high jump with a 1.66m leap in her debut at the meet.
The NCAA East Prelims will come to a close on Saturday, but the Deacs will not have competitors in the remaining events. Heppenstall and women's javelin thrower Jessie Merckle will represent Wake Forest at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. from June 8-11.
