The Matchups:
- No. 15 Wake Forest will play its third consecutive nonconference game, as they return to Kentner Stadium to face Richmond on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m.
Last Time Out:
- The Demon Deacons enjoyed an offensive explosion in their 8-2 win at App State on Wednesday night in Boone.
- Jule Grashoff netted two goals to reach 10 for the season, good for third in the ACC.
- Three Deacs also scored their first career goals. Sophomore Jess Pianko converted in the 18th minute to put Wake Forest up, 4-0, midway through the first half. Moments later, freshman Alexis Grippo delivered her first to give the team a 5-0 lead. Then, in the second half, junior back Veerle Bos found the back of the net for the team's sixth goal of the night.
Series Notes:
- The Demon Deacons own an 8-6-1 all-time record against Richmond. However, Wake Forest has taken the last six matchups in the series.
- The last win for the Spiders occurred on Sept. 20, 1997, when they defeated the Deacs, 3-2. The Demon Deacons have not lost to Richmond at home since 1992, which was head coach Jen Averill's first year with the program.
- The teams last met in 2015, a 6-1 home win for the Deacs. Jule Grashoff scored twice, while Emily Adamson and Karlee Spirit added a goal each.
Demon Deacon Storylines:
- The Deacs sit at No. 15 in the NFHCA weekly poll, after winning five of their last seven games.
- Earlier this season, Grashoff had a streak where she scored a goal in five straight games. Although that streak was snapped on Sept. 29 against Virginia, the junior from Germany has started spreading the wealth, as she has recorded two assists in three of the team's last four games. Grashoff now sits at 100 career points. She needs just 23 more to tie Tracy Stickney (123) for fifth in program history.
- Nicola Pluta added her fifth goal of the season against App State on Oct. 4. The sophomore has scored in three of the team's last four contests. The Deacs own a 6-2 record in the eight games that Pluta has played in this season.
Scouting the Spiders:
- The Spiders sit at 3-8 overall, but hold a 2-1 record in the A-10.
- Seven of Richmond's 11 games this season have been against ranked opponents. The Spiders hold a 1-6 record in those games. The team earned their first top-25 win in their last game, a 1-0 home win over No. 21 Saint Joseph's.
Selfie Sunday:
- Fans are encouraged to post a picture on twitter using the hastag "godeacs" for a chance to win a Wake Forest field hockey prize.
Looking Ahead:
- Wake Forest returns to ACC competition, as they head to Durham to take on No. 2 Duke next Friday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. If the Blue Devils ranking holds, it will be the fourth time in five ACC games that the Deacs will have faced a top-five opponent.
