THE MATCHUP
• Wake Forest hits the road for its final away games of the regular season. The Deacons will face No. 23 Virginia on Friday, Oct. 19 at 5 p.m., and will take on VCU on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. in non-conference action.
• Friday's match against Virginia will be broadcast on ACCNE with Jack Benjamin and Rachel Ryan on the call.
• The Deacons jumped two spots in the NFHCA poll entering this week's contests at No. 14- the highest ranking for Wake since it earned No. 14 in the pre-season poll.
LAST TIME OUT
• The Deacons topped then No. 9 Syracuse 4-1 at home on Sunday.
• The Orange scored first, but Wake forest came to life with four unanswered goals scored by four different Deacs- Jule Grashoff, Veerle Bos, Anne van Hoof and Kelsey Gill.
• Goalkeeper Isla Bint earned the win to improve to 8-2 in the net and made three saves.
• Megan Anderson tallied two assists in the win.
QUICK HITS
• Head coach Jen Averill returns for her 27th season at the helm of the program
• The Deacons return 13 players from last year's squad, led by Jule Grashoff, who led the team with 16 goals and 14 assists. The club also welcomes eight new freshmen.
• Grashoff was recently tabbed Preseason ALL-ACC, voted on by the league's seven coaches. Wake Forest was picked to finish seventh in the conference.
• Former U.S. National Team captain Melissa Gonzalez joins Wake Forest as an assistant coach. Gonzalez spent the past eight years competing with the U.S. Women's National Team and representing Team USA at two Olympic Games.
• Anderson leads the nation in assists per game with 1.29. She has notched 18 assists so far this season. Alexis Grippo also ranks in the top-5 nationally in assists per game at no. 4 with .75.
• Grashoff ranks 10th nationally in goals per game (.93) and leads the ACC with 13 goals.
SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
• No. 23 Virginia is coming off a 2-0 loss to Delaware last weekend and enters the matchup with a 5-8 overall record and 1-4 in the ACC.
• Grace Wallis has notched four goals and five assists on the season for a team-high 13 points.
• Carrera Lucas has recorded over 900 minutes in the net for the Cavs and has only allowed 18 goals, while making 67 saves on the year.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
• The Rams enter the weekend at 8-6 with a 5-1 record in Atlantic 10 play.
• VCU split last weekend, falling to No. 13 St. Joseph's 3-1, but topping La Salle 2-1.
• Emily McNamara leads the team with 20 goals and 43 points.
• Defensively, goal keeper Sasha Elliott has played every minute in the net, recording 42 saves.
LOOKING AHEAD
• The Deacs will return home for their final regular season game against Davidson for Senior Night on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m.
