CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA- The No. 23 Virginia Cavaliers (6-8, 2-4 ACC) defeated 14th-ranked Wake Forest field hockey (8-7, 2-1 ACC), 2-1 on Friday night in the Deacons' final ACC match of the season.
The Cavs took a 1-0 lead just 10 minutes into the first period as Amber Ezechiel scored her third of the season on a penalty corner with the assists from Nikki Freeman and Anzel Viljoen.
Wake Forest found a first period equalizer just minutes before the half. Kelsey Gill made her way past the Virginia keeper on a second chance after Jule Grashoff's attempt was saved to even the game at 1-1 heading into the break. All four of Gills goals this season have come in the past five games.
