THE MATCHUP
• The Deacons travel to face No. 1 North Carolina on Saturday, Oct. 6, and return home on Sunday, Oct. 7 to host Appalachian State in non-conference action. Both matches are set for 1 p.m.
• Saturday's match against the Tar Heels will be streamed on ACC Network Extra

LAST TIME OUT
• The Deacons' four-game winning streak was snapped as No. 4 Duke defeated No.21 Wake Forest  3-2 at Kentner Stadium. 
•  The Deacs scored early, but Duke took a 2-1 lead into the break. Senior Emily Adamson scored the equalizer for the Deacons in the 37th minute, but the Blue Devils clinched the win with a penalty stroke in the 53rd minute. 
• Wake Forest bounced back to defeat No. 20 Liberty on the road. Alexis Grippo scored the game winner on a penalty stroke in double overtime. 

QUICK HITS
• Head coach Jen Averill returns for her 27th season at the helm of the program  
• The Deacons return 13 players from last year's squad, led by Jule Grashoff, who led the team with 16 goals and 14 assists. The club also welcomes eight new freshmen. 
• Grashoff was recently tabbed Preseason ALL-ACC, voted on by the league's seven coaches. Wake Forest was picked to finish seventh in the conference. 
• Former U.S. National Team captain Melissa Gonzalez joins Wake Forest as an assistant coach. Gonzalez spent the past eight years competing with the U.S. Women's National Team and representing Team USA at two Olympic Games. 
Megan Anderson leads the nation in assists per game with 1.09. She has tallied 12 assists so far this season. 

SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
• Top-ranked North Carolina enters the weekend undefeated at 11-0 and 4-0 in ACC play. 
• The Tar Heels are coming off a 5-1 victory over Syracuse and a 9-0 shutout over Ball State.
• Freshman Erin Matson was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week following a three-goal weekend. 
• Matson leads the ACC with 10 goals through 11 games. She also paces UNC with seven assists and 27 points. 
• North Carolina has scored 50 goals on the season and has held opponents to just four goals. 
• Seven of the Tar Heels' 11 games have been shutouts. 

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
• Appalachian State travels to Winston with a 4-8 record. 
• The Mountaineers are currently on a seven game losing streak. 
•  Veerle van Heertum and Ali Williams lead the Mountaineers with four goals. Van Heertum has added two assists for 10 points. 
 •  The Deacons hold a 35-16-1 all-time record against App. State

LOOKING AHEAD
•  Wake Forest will host New Hampshire on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. The game was rescheduled due to Hurricane Florence 
• The Deacs will continue their three-game home stretch with an ACC matchup against Syracuse, Saturday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
