Wake Forest Storylines
• The Demon Deacons are coming off their second Super Regional appearance, finishing a game away from the College World Series. Wake Forest finished the year with a 43-20 record and set program records in ACC wins (19), ACC series wins (eight), All-ACC honorees (nine), MLB Draft picks (eight) and home runs (106).
• The Deacs are led by consensus preseason All-American Johnny Aiello and returning draftee Griffin Roberts, both juniors. Aiello blasted 20 homers - fourth-most in program history - while Roberts had a 2.19 ERA, eight saves and broke the program record in strikeouts per nine innings as the closer last year.
Opponent and Series History
• Georgetown is coming off a 27-28 season in 2017. The Hoyas feature pitching coach Eric Niesen, a Wake Forest grad who was a third-round pick and served as the Deacs' student assistant coach last year.
• Navy went 37-17 a season ago. The Midshipmen have won three-straight Patriot League regular season titles. The only time they played the Deacs was a 13-1 Wake Forest win in the 2002 Winston-Salem Regional.
• The Runnin' Bulldogs posted a 25-30 overall record a season ago. The Deacs have a 3-0 record against Gardner-Webb, and are playing them for the first time since 2013.
Looking Ahead
• Wake Forest travels to Davidson on Tuesday in a battle of 2017 Super Regional qualifiers.
