WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No.1 Wake Forest men's tennis team improved to 13-0 overall and 2-0 in ACC play with a 6-1 victory over No. 18 Duke Wednesday (March 21) afternoon.

The Deacs set a new program record Wednesday with their 13 consecutive wins to begin a season. The previous program record for consecutive wins to start a season was 12, set back in Wake Forest's third year of competition, 1972.

Wake Forest received a tough test from the Blue Devils (11-8, 2-2 ACC) in doubles play, as all three courts went down to the wire. Borna Gojo and Alan Gadjiev earned a late break before holding serve to secure the 6-4 victory at the No. 3 position.

Petros Chrysochos and Bar Botzer were then up 6-5 at the No. 1 position before breaking Duke's Sean Sculley and Nick Stachowiak to clinch the doubles point.

It was all Wake Forest in singles play, as the Deacs sprinted out of the gate, winning the first three matches to secure the victory. Gojo (6-1, 6-0) and Chrysochos (6-1, 6-2) claimed victories at the No. 1 and 2 positions to put Wake Forest within a point of clinching the match before Julian Zlobinsky closed out his match at No. 4, 6-3, 6-0.

Duke picked up its lone point of the day with a straight-sets victory at No. 5 before Wake Forest took the final two matches remaining. Skander Mansouri won at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-4, before Alan Gadjiev held on in the second set for a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 6.

The Deacs hit the road for a pair of matches down in Florida this weekend. Wake Forest will face Miami on Friday, March 23, at 3 p.m. before taking on No. 20 Florida State at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 25.
