TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Wake Forest women's golf team opened play Monday at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional with the first round of play at the Don Veller Seminole Golf Course. The Demon Deacons shot 3-under to finish the first of three rounds tied for fourth place.

The top six teams from the 18-team field will advance to the NCAA Championships, held later this month in Stillwater, Okla. Washington is the first round leader at 15-under, followed by Furman at 8-under and Alabama at 6-under. The Demon Deacons are tied with Clemson and Tennessee for fourth at 3-under, one shot ahead of seventh place Florida State (2-under).

"The students got off to a good start today and I am proud of the way they hung in there in the middle of the round," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "They did not get flustered when they made a few bogeys and they made some good birdies and an eagle coming in. We are in good position after the first day and will continue to learn and improve each day."

Wake Forest was led on the opening day by Jennifer Kupcho and Siyun Liu, who each shot a 2-under round of 70. Emilia Migliaccio posted an even par round of 72 and Mai Dechathipat had a 1-over round of 73. Monica Schumacher rounded out the lineup with a first round 78.

The NCAA Tallahassee Regional continues Tuesday and concludes Wednesday at the Don Veller Seminole Golf Course.
