No. 21 Deacons Fall to No. 9 Boston College in ACC Quarterfinals

11/7/2019 4:13:00 PM | Field Hockey

NEWTON, Mass. - Wake Forest field hockey's season came to a close as the Deacons dropped a hard-fought battle to ninth ranked and second-seeded Boston College in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championships.

Wake Forest (9-11, 0-6 ACC) displayed a tough defensive effort, led by senior keeper Isla Bint with four saves in the cage, but struggled to get anything on the board offensively. For the first time this season, Wake Forest was held without getting a shot off. An early penalty corner was awarded to the Deacs at the five-minute mark, but junior Anne van Hoof's attempt was waived off.

Boston College (12-6, 4-2 ACC) put its first point on the board with a penalty corner as Darcy Clement found the back of the net for the first time in her career just over one minute before the buzzer sounded for halftime. With just three minutes to play in the game, Wake Forest emptied the net adding an addition field player to the turf.  With one second to play, Jaime Natale broke away for the empty net goal for the final 2-0 decision to advance the Eagles to the semifinal game.

Van Hoof led the Deacs for the season with seven goals, and was named Second Team All-ACC, while sophomore Laia Vancells posted a team-best 16 points on six goals and four assists. Senior captain Kelsey Gill added 12 points on four goals and four assists. In the cage, Bint started in every game for the Deacs this season notching 68 saves and collecting five shut out victories.
