Last Time Out
• The Demon Deacons received a highlight-reel goal from Alistair Johnston in the closing seconds of the first half, and that proved to be enough in a 1-0 win over No. 22-ranked UC Santa Barbara on Dec. 7.
• Johnston dribbled through four defenders before tapping a shot inside the near post for the game-winning goal.
• Andrew Pannenberg was impressive in goal, stopping all four shots on goal he faced en route to his ninth solo shutout of the year.
Quick Kicks
• Wake Forest is making its ninth-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament, and its 18th of the last 19 years. This is the Deacs' sixth trip to the College Cup, with all of them coming in the last 15 years.
• The Deacs have been ranked in the top 10 in 47 consecutive polls, and in the top 25 in 67 consecutive polls, dating back to the 2015 preseason poll. The Deacs have also earned a No. 1 ranking in all five of Bobby Muuss' seasons.
• Since the start of the Muuss era in 2015, Wake Forest has a 89-15-9 overall record. That win total is the most of any Division I program.
• Wake Forest has been one of the highest powered offenses in the country under Muuss. After leading the nation with 58 goals in 2017, the Deacs ranked second in the country with 52 goals last year. Wake Forest currently ranks ninth nationally with 45 goals.
• Wake also ranks 10th in the country defensively with a 0.67 goals-against average.
• The Deacs have sent 11 into the MLS ranks over the past two years, including Brad Dunwell, Omir Fernandez, Logan Gdula and Sam Raben following the 2018 campaign.
• Wake Forest has reached at least the NCAA Round of 16 all five years under Muuss, including four times making it to the NCAA quarterfinals and one NCAA College Cup runner-up finish in 2016.
• Midfielder Bruno Lapa was named a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy for the second-straight year. In his career, he has 59 points (18th all-time) on 22 goals (16th all-time) and 15 assists.
Opponent & Series History
• Virginia leads the all-time series, 37-13-8, including a 1-0 win over Wake in the ACC Championship semifinal this year. The Deacs are 0-16-5 all-time against the Cavaliers in the ACC and NCAA Tournaments, but did claim the 2017 ACC title in penalties.
• The Cavaliers are 20-1-1 overall and won the ACC Championship. UVA has won nine straight since a 2-0 loss to Pitt on Oct. 18.
• Joe Bell was named ACC Midfielder of the Year, but missed the first meeting due to National Team duties.
Up Next
• The winner of this game will play the winner of No. 3 seed Georgetown and No. 7 Stanford for the College Cup crown on Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. on ESPNU.
