Deacs Fall to No. 9 NC State on the Road

Raca scores a team-high 15 points to lead the Deacs
RALIEGH, N.C.- The Wake Forest women's basketball team fell to No. 9 NC State, 80-46, Thursday night inside Reynolds Coliseum. Ivana Raca tallied 15 points and nine rebounds for the Deacs, nearly missing a double-double. It marked Raca's 19th game scoring in double figures this season. Â

Alex Sharp scored 10 points while securing nine rebounds and Gina Conti added seven points and four assists without turning the ball over once.Â

Maya Banks converted a layup in Wake Forest's (10-16, 1-12 ACC) first possession of the contest, giving the Deacs a 2-0 lead. NC State (23-3, 10-3 ACC) would answer with a 25-3 run over the next nine minutes. At the end of the first quarter, Wake Forest trailed NC State 27-7.Â

Conti got things started in the second quarter with a last-second jumper to beat an expiring shot clock. A 7-0 run from the Wolfpack would force Wake Forest to use a timeout with 5:35 remaining in the second segment. The first half ended with Wake Forest trailing NC State 47-20. Â

NC State began the third quarter on a 10-0 run, but the Deacs answered by igniting an 8-0 sequence thanks to five straight points from Conti and a Raca three-pointer. NC State would continue its pressure throughout the remainder of the contest to beat Wake Forest, 80-46.Â

The Deacs return home on Sunday, February 24 to host the Duke Blue Devils. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.Â
