Deacs Lead After First Day in Dominican Republic

LA ROMANA, Dominican Republic – The Wake Forest women's golf team opened play strong at the Tar Heel Classic at Casa de Campo. Playing in the Dominican Republic for the first time, the Demon Deacons are 9-under par through the first two rounds at the prestigious Teeth of the Dog course to hold a four-shot lead after 36 holes.
The No. 12 Demon Deacons shot 6-under in Friday's first round and 3-under in Friday's second round and hold a four-shot lead over No. 16 Virginia, who is at 5-under after the opening day. North Carolina is in third place at even par.
Senior Jennifer Kupcho shot rounds of 66 and 69 on Friday to hold a three-shot lead at 9-under on the individual leaderboard.
Letizia Bagnoli is T-11th at even par after rounds of 71 and 73 on Friday. Emilia Migliaccio and Siyun Liu are both T-15th at 1-over par through 36 holes. Vanessa Knecht rounded out the lineup with rounds of 72 and 82.
The final round of the Tar Heel Classic will be held Saturday on the Teeth of the Dog course.
