Deacs Finish Competition at Vertklasse Meet

Kempski battles for the win on final day in High Point
HIGH POINT, N.C. – On the final day of events at the 2019 High Point Vertklasse, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons collected one title and two heat victories, Saturday at Vert Stadium.
Senior Tesia Kempski, battling with UNC and High Point down the stretch, won the women's pole vault event with a height of 4.01m. It was third time's a charm for Kempski, as she was able to earn the crown in her third career appearance at the meet.
Freshmen Kenton Bachmann, Brent Bailey and Michael Moerk displayed a glimpse of the future for Wake Forest. The trio swept the top-three spots of their heat in the men's 800m. Bachmann earned the heat victory at 1:55.17. Senior Dakota Greenwalt took second in his heat (eighth overall) of the men's 400m, battling down the stretch for position.
Bachmann and Greenwalt, along with Kaleb Bryant and Evan Simmons, teamed up in the men's 4x400m relay. The relay squad crossed the finish line third, behind UNC and N.C. State.
For the women, Cydney Delley won her heat in the women's 100m dash with a time of 12.25 seconds. Emma Gallagher (10th) and Ali Belvin (13th) earned top-15 finishes in the women's 400m hurdles.
In the field, Alva Hicks finished seventh in her first hammer throw event of the 2019 outdoor season. Along with Kempski, Darby Deutsch competed in the pole vault, earning an eighth-place finish.
Up next, the Demon Deacons head to N.C. State for the Raleigh Relays, held March 29-30 at Dail Soccer Field/Track Complex.
