Wake Forest Drops Doubleheader to No. 10 Louisville

3/29/2019 9:11:00 PM | Baseball

The Cardinals claimed a pair of wins by scores of 6-1 and 10-7.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Wake Forest dropped a pair of games to No. 10 Louisville by scores of 6-1 and 10-7 at Jim Patterson Stadium on Friday evening.

The third game of the series is currently slated for Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., which is subject to change due to inclement weather in the forecast.

Bobby Seymour finished the day 5-for-9 with three RBIs to lead the Demon Deacons (15-13, 5-6 ACC) against the Cardinals (21-6, 8-3 ACC).

Game 1: Louisville 6, Wake Forest 1

Reid Detmers tossed a gem for the Cardinals, limiting the Deacs to just one run. Detmers struck out 10 over 7.1 innings, allowing a run on six hits with no walks.

Wake Forest starter Colin Peluse rebounded after conceding four runs in the first two innings to pitch into the eighth. He struck out five in 7.1 innings.

For Louisville, Danny Oriente hit a two-run double in the first and Tyler Fitzgerald added a two-run triple in the second as the Cardinals took a 4-0 lead they never relented.

Bobby Seymour hit an RBI single in the fourth for the Deacons' only run of the game. He and Chris Lanzilli had two hits apiece.

Game 2: Louisville 10, Wake Forest 7

The Deacs took a 4-0 lead in the third and carried a 5-2 lead at the midway point of the game, but Louisville took control of the game with a five-run seventh inning.

Patrick Frick's two-run double in the third capped off a four-run inning for the Deacs, but the Cardinals responded with two in the fourth to cut the margin to 4-2.

The teams traded solo homers in the fifth, with Chris Lanzilli hitting one in the top of the frame and Justin Lavey responding with one of his own in the bottom of the inning to make the score 5-3 as the Cardinals scored their first of seven-consecutive runs.

An RBI single made it 5-4 in the sixth, then the seventh inning was started by a two-run Tyler FItzgerald double and capped off by a Logan Wyatt solo homer as Louisville took a 9-5 lead.

Shane Muntz hit an RBI single the eighth inning, but Louisville again answered in the bottom of the inning with a run which made the score 10-6.

The Deacs brought the potential tying run to the plate in the ninth after Bobby Seymour hit an RBI single, but a flyout ended the game.

Seymour (3-for-5, two RBIs) and Frick (2-for-5, two RBIs) led the Deacon offensive attack.
