BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – The No. 12 Wake Forest women's golf team continued its strong play with another record-setting performance to open the Bryan National Collegiate on Friday. The Demon Deacons shot 14-under during the first round at the Bryan Park Champions Course to break the 22-year tournament's single-round scoring record.
The Deacs' round of 274 broke the Bryan National Collegiate record of 278, set by Alabama during the final round of the 2017 event. The score also tied the Wake Forest single-round record of 14-under, set earlier this month during the final round of the Tar Heel Classic at Campo de Casa in the Dominican Republic.
The Demon Deacons were one of just two teams to finish the opening day under par and hold an 11-shot lead over NC State (3-under) after 18 holes.
The Deacs dominated the top of the individual leaderboard with four of the top seven, including the top three. Emilia Migliaccio shot a 5-under 67 to hold the 18-hole individual lead, one shot ahead of teammates Jennifer Kupcho and Letizia Bagnoli, who each shot 68. Siyun Liu had a 1-under 71 to finish the day at T-7th, while Vanessa Knecht rounded out the lineup with a first-round 73.
The Bryan National Collegiate continues Saturday and concludes Sunday at Bryan Park. Admission is free.
