Shane Muntz and Chris Lanzilli homered in the losing effort.
HIGH POINT, N.C. -- High Point's AJ Holcomb hit a walk-off, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Panthers past Wake Forest, 7-5, at Williard Stadium on Wednesday night.
The homer capped off a 4-for-5 day for Holcomb, who also hit a double to lead the Panthers (22-19).
The Demon Deacons (27-20) received home runs from Chris Lanzilli and Shane Muntz in the losing effort.
Wake Forest opened the scoring with three runs in the second, thanks to an RBI single from Brendan Tinsman and two-run single by DJ Poteet.
Lanzilli blasted his 15th homer of the season in the third to make the score 4-0.
High Point pulled ahead, 5-4, with two runs in the fourth and three in the seventh, as Wake Forest struggled against Panther reliever Jonny Vizcaino, who struck out five in 3.0 shutout innings.
But Muntz blasted his 12th homer of the year to tie the game at 5-5 in the eighth, this one hitting off the batter's eye behind the center-field wall.
The Panthers loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the inning, but Ryan Cusick entered and recorded back-to-back groundouts to escape.
The Deacs put three aboard in the ninth, but a caught stealing and strikeout helped end the inning, setting up Holcomb's two-run homer in the bottom of the inning.
Grey Lyttle earned the win for High Point, allowing one run in 3.0 innings with six strikeouts.
Colin Peluse started for Wake Forest and allowed two runs in 4.1 innings. Carter Bach coaxed a double play on the only batter he faced in relief.
Muntz finished the day 3-for-3 with a walk, while Jake Mueller went 2-for-4.
Wake Forest is off this weekend for final exams, returning to action Tuesday against Davidson.
