Wake Forest's Bats Come Alive in 14-5 Win at Clemson

5/18/2019 4:43:00 PM | Baseball

Patrick Frick recorded Wake Forest's first five-hit game since 2017.

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Wake Forest's offense struck for 18 hits in a 14-5 victory over Clemson at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Demon Deacons (30-25, 14-16 ACC) were led by Patrick Frick, who went 5-for-6 to record Wake Forest's first five-hit game since 2017. He also scored four runs in drove in two.

Bobby Seymour recorded two hits and three more RBIs to give him 92 this season. That mark is most in NCAA Division I since Buster Posey had 93 in 2008, and is also two off the program record of 94.

Chris Lanzilli went 3-for-4 with two walks, Bruce Steel was 2-for-4 with a walk and three-run homer, and Michael Turconi went 2-for-6.

In addition, Jake Mueller went 2-for-5 and recorded his 200th career hit, becoming the 27th member of Wake Forest's 200-hit club.

Ryan Cusick was solid on the mound, allowing just a pair of two-run homers. He finished with those four runs allowed on four hits and three walks over 6.0 innings with six strikeouts. Antonio Menendez struck out five in 2.0 innings, and William Fleming fanned a pair in a scoreless ninth inning.

Logan Davidson hit a two-run homer to put Clemson on the board first in the opening inning, but Wake Forest scored the next nine runs of the game with a four-run third inning and five-run sixth inning. After Chad Fairey hit a two-run homer in the sixth, the Deacs struck for four more runs in the eighth and capped the scoring with another run in the ninth.

Wake Forest scored at least one run against all six of Clemson's pitchers, including tagging starter Davis Sharpe for seven runs over 5.0 innings.

The Deacs will now prepare for next week's ACC Championship. The league will announce seedings tonight, followed by game dates and times Sunday morning.
