Wake Splits Series with Duke
10/25/2020 2:01:00 PM | Field Hockey
DURHAM, N.C. – After a dramatic overtime win on Friday, Wake Forest fell to the Duke Blue Devils 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Jack Katz Stadium.
"We are playing some really great field hockey, but our effectiveness inside the 25-yard line is something we need to work on. Meike (Lanckohr) is playing really brilliant hockey for us right now."
The Demon Deacons (2-6, 1-3 ACC) only managed to get off three shots, with one on target, but Duke keeper Piper Hamsch was there to make the save to keep Wake Forest off the board.
Duke (1-6, 0-4 ACC) took an early 1-0 lead converting a penalty corner at the 10-minute mark. Eva Nunnik scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Lily Posternack. The Blue Devils extended their lead late in the third quarter after being awarded a penalty stroke to seal the 2-0 victory.
Laia Vancells led the Wake offense with two shots while Abby Carpenter added one. Both sides were awarded two penalty opportunities.
Ally Butler earned the start in the net, making two saves and conceding just one goal before handing over goalkeeping duties to Tori Glaister.
Wake Forest will be back in action on Friday at North Carolina. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. on ACC Network.
