The Matchup
• Wake Forest will wrap up its 2020 regular season on the road against North Carolina and Boston College.
• The Deacs will travel to Chapel Hill on Friday at 4:30 to face the Tar Heels and will fly to Chestnut Hill on Sunday to face the Eagles at noon.
• Both games will air on ACCN with Eric Frede and Leah Secondo on the call.
• Boston College is not allowing fan attendance at this time.
Last Time Out
• Wake Forest picked up its first aCC victory of the season, defeating Duke 2-1 in overtime. Meike Lanckohr scored the first goal for the Deacons and freshman Grace Delmotte netted the game-winner four minutes into OT.
• The Deacs dropped the second matchup with the Blue Devils on the road 2-0 on Sunday.
Quick Hits
• Head coach Jen Averill returns for her 29th season. She is 385-203-3 (.654) during her tenure with the Deacs.
• The Deacons return 13 players from last year's squad and welcome eight freshmen and a sophomore.
• Wake returns its top-three goal scorers from last season. Laia Vancells led the Deacs in 2019 with 16 points off six goals and four assists. Anne van Hoof netted a team-best seven goals and Alexis Grippo tallied five goals and five assists.
• The ACC is the only conference participating in field hockey this fall. The Deacs will play most ACC schools twice, with only one game counting as a conference match. The NCAA Field Hockey Championship will take place in the spring.
• Elisha Evans, Alexis Grippo and Anne van Hoof return for their senior seasons to lead the Deacs and were all three voted captains for the 2020 campaign.
• Jen Averill is assisted by former Team USA teammates Melissa Gonzalez and Jackie Kintzer Briggs. It is the only all-female coaching staff at Wake Forest.
• Megan Anderson ('19) returns to her home turf as a volunteer assistant with the Demon Deacons.
Scouting the Tar Heels
•The Tar Heels are 6-1 on the season and 3-1 in the ACC standings, falling only to undefeated Louisville.
• The Demon Deacons faced the Tar Heels in the season opener on Sept. 20, falling 3-1.
• This match will be the designated ACC contest between the two teams.
Scouting the Eagles
• Wake Forest will be BC's first opponent since it opened the season with a loss to Louisville on Oct. 4.
• The Eagles have had to postpone their past five contests due to COVID-19 precautions.
Looking Ahead
• The Deacons will return to Durham Nov. 5-8 for the ACC Field Hockey Championships hosted By Duke.
