No. 6 Demon Deacons Down Virginia and Davidson

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest men's tennis picked up two wins on Sunday afternoon over Virginia and Davidson at the Wake Forest Tennis Center. The Demon Deacons improve to 7-1 on the season.
"It was nice to bounce back after our not-so-great performance against Baylor," head coach Tony Bresky said. "I think it woke the guys up a little bit. It gave our guys that extra push and determination and we are going to take that same mindset into ITA Indoor Championships next weekend."
Wake 5, UVA 2
Wake started the day with a dominant 5-2 victory over Virginia in a non-conference matchup. The Deacs won the doubles point behind wins from Eduardo Nava and Henri Squire over the No. 35 doubles pair in the nation on court one followed by Bar Botzer and Morgan Dill with a 6-4 win on court three.
Wake continued its momentum in singles action. Nava posted Wake's second point of the day, finishing with a 6-3, 6-0 win on court five. Freshman Squire delivered a 6-3, 6-4 win in the third spot quickly handing the Deacons a 3-0 advantage.
After dropping the first set 6-1, Melios Efstathiou rallied the take the second set 6-3 forcing a third frame. He dominated in the final set, picking up a 6-1 victory to clinch the match for the Demon Deacons.
Freshman Taha Baadi picked up a top-100 win after defeating No. 81 Ryan Goetz 6-2, 7-6 (4) in the second spot. The remaining matches continued to be played out, but fell in favor of the Cavaliers. Siddhant Banthia earned a 6-1 victory in his first set, but William Woodall came back to win the match taking sets two and three 7-5, 7-6 (4).
Bar Botzer also won his first set 7-6 (2), but UVA's Carl Soderlund battled back to claim the 7-5, 14-12 decision.
Wake 7, Davidson 0
The Deacons wrapped the doubleheader with a 7-0 sweep over Davidson. Wake Forest picked up the doubles point with back-to-back 6-4 wins on courts three and two. Banthia and Rrezart Cungu partnered up on court three, while Matthew Thomson made his Demon Deacon debut with partner Morgan Dill in the second spot.
The Demon Deacons won all six singles matches. Yuval Solomon made his first appearance of the season with a quick 6-0, 6-1 decision on court five to put the first singles point on the board for the Black and Gold.
Baadi finished just minutes later, downing Axel Fries 6-1, 6-2 in the second spot. With a Bar Botzer scratch, freshman Henri Squire played the top court for the first time in his career, clinching the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Yash Parikh.
The three remaining matches were played out finalizing the 7-0 score for the Deacs. No. 84 Rrezart Cungu delivered a 6-4, 6-0 win in the fourth spot. Thomson played in his first singles match for Wake, topping Camden Mazzoni 6-3, 6-2 as the Demon Deacons controlled a 6-0 lead.
No. 100 Banthia finished the day with an ace on court three, defeating Thomas Mason 7-6(1), 6-2.

Wake Forest will travel to Madison, Wis., to compete in the ITA National Indoor Championship Feb. 14-17.
