Wake to Face Virginia Tech in ACC Tournament Second Round

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's basketball team will face Virginia Tech in the second round of the ACC Tournament on Thursday.
 
The Demon Deacons (15-15) had a major advantage on the boards in the first round of the ACC Tournament, winning the battle on the glass by +25 against North Carolina. The Deacs snagged 20 offensive rebounds, which resulted in 32 second chance points. Wake also had four starters finish in double figures to help it advance to the second round.
 
The Hokies (21-8) earned the No. 5 seed in the conference tournament after winning 11 games in conference play this season. The Hokie guards in Aisha Sheppard and Dara Mabrey combine to average more 5.35 three-point makes per game while shooting a combined 37.1 percent from behind the arc.

Tipoff for Thursday morning's game against the Hokies is scheduled for 11 a.m. (ET) in the Greensboro Coliseum. The game can also be seen on RSN and ACCNX.

  • The Demon Deacons led nearly the entire way and in the second half led by as much as 18 points. They dominated the boards, owning a +25-rebounding margin at the end of the game
    • Ivana Raca had a career day, ending the game with a career-high tying 27 points to go along with a career-high 13 rebounds. Alex Sharp also finished with a double-double, totaling 19 points and 10 rebounds.

STANDOUT STAT
Ivana Raca became just the second Wake Forest player in the last 20 years to tally 25-plus points and 10-plus rebounds in an ACC Tournament game.

The only other Demon Deacon to do this is All-American Dearica Hamby.

ACADEMIC ALL-ACC PERFORMERS
Two members of the Wake Forest women's basketball team were named to the Academic All-ACC Team, as announced by the conference office Wednesday morning.

Senior Alex Sharp becomes the first player in Wake Forest history to be named to the team in all four seasons while sophomore Christina Morra was honored for the first time in her career.

ALL-ACC IVANA
Junior forward Ivana Raca was named to the All-ACC team, as announced by the league office on Monday.

She became the 23rd player in program history to earn all-league honors and the second international player in Wake history to be named to the All-ACC team.

The Belgrade, Serbia native entered the conference tournament ranked fifth in the league with 16.8 points per game while also grabbing 6.7 rebounds per game, dishing out 1.7 assists per game and tallying 1.2 steals per game.

The winner of the second-round game will go on to play No. 4 seed Florida State on Friday morning. Tipoff for the quarterfinal round is scheduled for 11 a.m. in Greensboro Coliseum.
