Wake Forest Drops Series Finale to No. 3 Louisville

DJ Poteet and Chris Lanzilli homered in the 16-4 loss.
The Cardinals (11-4, 2-1 ACC) put up four crooked numbers, scoring twice in the second and third innings, seven times in the fifth and three times in the seventh to take command of the game.
The Demon Deacons (9-7, 1-2 ACC) didn't get on the scoreboard until Poteet's solo homer in the sixth.
"Obviously I'm disappointed we didn't play a little better today," head coach Tom Walter said. "Louisville's a really good team. We got a good start out of Cusick, a good start out of Shuster and an okay start out of Fleming so I'm okay where our weekend pitching is...I like how our pitching staff is coming together, we just need to swing the bats a little better, which we will."
Poteet reached base in all four of his plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with a homer, two walks and two RBIs. Michael Turconi also added two hits and Pierce Bennett recorded his first collegiate hit in addition to a sacrifice fly.
Luke Smith earned the win for Louisville, allowing three runs over 6.1 innings on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Offensively, the Cardinals were led by homers from Henry Davis and Jared Poland, plus multi-hit efforts from Luke Brown, Zach Britton, Levi Usher and Davis.
Wake Forest hits the road on Wednesday, traveling to Coastal Carolina for a 6 p.m. game.
