Deacs Travel to Fort Worth for ITA Kickoff Weekend

The nationally-ranked Wake Forest men’s tennis team starts the 2021 campaign against Oklahoma as a part of ITA Kickoff Weekend.
FORT WORTH, Texas. - The No. 12 Wake Forest men's tennis team is set to begin the 2021 season on Saturday morning in Fort Worth, Texas as a part of ITA Kickoff Weekend.
The Deacs have advanced to the ITA Indoor National Championships the past five seasons including winning the event during the 2017-18 season en route capturing the NCAA Championship.
The Demon Deacons will be one of four schools competing for the chance to advance to the ITA National Indoor Championships. Their first match comes against Oklahoma, who finished last season ranked No. 40 in the ITA rankings.
The winner will go on to face the winner of TCU or Denver on Saturday afternoon. The host Horn Frogs start the season as the No. 6 ranked team in the country while Denver closed out the 2019-20 campaign as the No. 45 team in the nation.
First serve against Oklahoma is set for 11 a.m. on Saturday with the Championship match set for 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

IN THE RANKINGS
The Wake Forest men's tennis team had a plethora of names on the initial list including four players in the singles rankings.
Bar Botzer, who played a majority of the 2019-20 campaign in the No. 1 spot for the Deacs, is the highest ranked Wake Forest player on the list. He is set to start the season at No. 31.
Also inside the top 100 in singles is Rrezart Cungu. He begins the season at No. 92 while Taha Baadi is just behind him at No. 107 in the ITA rankings.
Luciano Tacchi, who was also one of the top 10 newcomers of the year along with fellow freshman Filippo Moroni, rounds out the ranked Deacs in singles at No. 121.
In addition to singles, Henri Squire and Eduardo Nava will begin the season as the No. 18 doubles pairing in the country.
NEXT UP
The Deacs return home for a pair of matches against No. 20 South Carolina and Davidson. It will be the home opener for the Demon Deacons.
The first serve against Gamecocks is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Wake Forest Tennis Center.
