CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Wake Forest volleyball team defeated the Boston College Eagles in a five-set battle, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon. Grad transfer Kamryn Malloy led the Demon Deacons with a career-high 25 kills on 50 attempts.

Along with Malloy's 25 kills for a .440 hitting percentage, Andrea Fuentes tallied 52 assists and three kills of her own. Ashley Slater was right behind Malloy, with a season-high 18 kills for a .343 hitting percentage. Delaney McSweeney and Chloe Wilson also contributed to the offense with eight and seven kills, respectively. Wilson finished with a team-high .455 hitting percentage. McSweeney led Wake Forest on the net with eight blocks, four of which were solo. Olivia Franke was right behind her with four total blocks.

How It Happened
Each set was a point-for-point battle. The first set had nine tie scores before the Eagles were able to pull away with the first multi-point lead of the match at 11-13. A service ace from Andrea Fuentes got the Deacs back within one at 17-16. Wake Forest went on a 5-1 run to tie it at 21 and a Boston College service error gave the Deacs the tie at 22 and a service ace from Slater sealed the 25-22 set win for the Deacs.

The second set was much of the same story, with six tie scores before Wake Forest pulled away, 11-9, out of a Boston College timeout. The Deacs maintained the lead until a Boston College run tied the score at 21. Wake Forest went on a 4-0 run for the win. Three of the final four Deacon points were scored by Malloy, with a kill and two service aces. The Deacs took the second set 25-21.

Boston College won set three and four, 25-22 and 27-25, to force a fifth set. The fifth set stayed competitive with three tie scores before Wake Forest took an 11-7 lead and didn't look back. Boston College went on a small run to tie it up at 11 and 12. A kill from Kamryn Malloy and a service ace from Megan Merril gave the Deacs the 14-12 lead and Kamryn Malloy's 25th kill sealed the set, 15-13 and won the match 3-2.

Coach's Comments
"Today was a great battle. Winning is always the goal, especially a road win in conference play. We still have some things we must clean up, but I am proud of them for earning the win and playing to win. Kam had an amazing performance. She sets the tone, passes, and attacks great for us and is a fantastic role model for the younger players. She puts in the work every day and it shows on the court. Kam and Andrea both provide great leadership and it is so cool to see the growth we have had this year." – head coach Randi Smart
