11/22/2021 6:43:00 PM | Men's Basketball
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team will wrap up their five-game homestand on Tuesday, Nov. 23 against Kennesaw State in the first ever meeting between the two programs.
The Demon Deacons (4-0) are coming off an 87-63 victory over North Carolina A&T on Saturday in which Alondes Williams (19 points), Daivien Williamson (17 points), and Isaiah Mucius (16 points) combined for 53 points on 18-of-28 shooting.
Wake Forest put together strong offensive and defensive performances as the Deacs shot 52.7 percent from the field while holding the Aggies to just 39.0 percent shooting. As a team, Wake Forest knocked down 16 triples for just the sixth time in program history, and first time since the 2016-17 season (LSU, 12/22/16).
After four games, Alondes Williams (20.8 ppg, No. 2) and Daivien Williamson (17.0 ppg, No. 9) both currently rank top-10 in the ACC in scoring.
The Owls (2-3) are coming off a 97-78 loss to Belmont last Friday and are led by third-year coach Amir Abdur-Rahim. Abdur-Rahim's roster boasts three seniors, and six players who started 10 or more games last season for Kennesaw State.
Tipoff in Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum is scheduled for 8 p.m. and the game will air live on ACC Network.
Fans can follow along via the Demon Deacons Twitter and Instagram accounts (@WakeMBB).
Standout Stats
The Demon Deacons are off to extremely strong starts to the season on both sides of the court.
Offensively, Wake Forest has shot above 50 percent from the field in each of their first four games, and the team currently ranks ninth in the country and first in the ACC in field goal percentage at 52.9 percent. This years' squad is the first to shoot 50 percent or better from the field in each of its first four games to open the season since the 2000-01 team.
Three Deacs currently rank in the top five in the ACC in field goal percentage: Alondes Williams (No. 1, 70.2 percent), Jake LaRavia (No. 4, 62.9 percent), and Daivien Williamson (No. 5, 61.8 percent). Additionally, Williamson is second in the country and in the ACC in three-point percentage (66.7 percent).
On defense, Wake Forest has forced 76 turnovers over its first four games, and currently rank No. 13 in the country in steals per game at 11.5. Jake LaRavia (3.0 steals) is currently tied for second in the ACC in steals per game, while Daivien Williamson (2.8 steals) is currently ranked fourth.
Additionally, the Demon Deacon defense has held three of its first four opponents to sub-40 percent shooting from the field, becoming the first team to do so since the 2009-10 team held each of its first four opponents to sub-40 percent shooting.
