Deacs Head South for Palmetto Intercollegiate

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's golf team is headed to Kiawah Island for the Palmetto Intercollegiate at Turtle Point Golf Course of the Kiawah Island Resort. The event is hosted by College of Charleston.
Wake Forest will be one of seven ACC schools competing at Turtle Point this week. The Deacs are currently No. 7 in the GolfStat Collegiate rankings. Virginia and Virginia Tech, who will also be at Turtle Point, are inside the latest top 25 rankings, at No. 5 and No. 19 respectively.
Wake Forest is coming off two weeks of practice after finishing second at the UCF Challenge February 2. Sophomore Lauren Walsh led the Deacs in Florida, coming in second in the field of 90. Sophomore Rachel Kuehn shot a career-low 66 in the opening round of the tournament to finish three strokes behind Walsh in a tie for third. Freshman Mimi Rhodes and senior Siyun Liu finished in a tie for 14th.
Course Information: The tournament is being played at the Par 72, 6,021-yard Turtle Point Golf Course at the Kiawah Island Resort in Kiawah Island. S.C. After a comprehensive nine-month renovation led by Jack Nicklaus and members of his architectural team, Turtle Point reopened in late 2016. Improvements included regrassing with Paspalum, rebuilding of all bunkers and laser-leveling all tee boxes, among many others.
Format: 54-hole stroke play where teams will play three rounds over two days. Sunday's tee times will begin at 8:00 am ET with continuous play into the afternoon. Monday's tee times will also begin at 8:00 am.
Player to Watch
Coming off a strong collegiate debut, freshman Mimi Rhodes finds herself in the lineup for a second consecutive tournament for the Demon Deacons. The Bath, England native is looking to build off her T14 finish at the UCF Challenge at the beginning of the month.
