Wake Forest looks to sweep the season series against the Mountaineers.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest will begin an eight-game road trip with a non-conference contest at Appalachian State on Tuesday, April 13 at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium in Boone, N.C.

The Deacs (10-15, 5-12 ACC) will look to sweep the home-and-home set against the Mountaineers (13-14, 6-3 Sun Belt) after a 15-7 victory on March 30 in the in-state battle at David F. Couch Ballpark. Wake Forest's bats exploded in the midweek win, hitting six home runs, the most since 2017, and back-to-back-to-back homers for the first time since 1991.

The game will be shown live on ESPN+. Stay tuned to the Demon Deacons social media accounts (@WakeBaseball) for all in-game updates and information.

Cusick Reaches Milestones
In his sixth start of the 2021 season, Wake Forest's Friday night start Ryan Cusick recorded multiple career milestones.

The sophomore set a new career-high for strikeouts in a season, tossing 56 strikeouts in just 33 innings across six starts.

His previous career high was set during his freshman season in almost double the game action, tossing 55 K's in 65.2 frames (19 appearances).

With his fifth strikeout in the third inning against Virginia Tech, the Sudbury, Mass. native threw his 150th career strikeout.

Dating back to last season, Cusick has thrown double-digit strikeouts in six of his previous 10 starts.

Milestone Watch- Chris Lanzilli
In Wake Forest's 6-3 victory over Louisville, Chris Lanzilli smashed a homerun to deep left center field to give the Deacs a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning.

Lanzilli's solo shot in the fifth marked the 36th home run of his career. Following his next homer, the Stoneham, Mass. native will enter the top-10 for most home runs in program history.

Currently, Will Craig (2014-16), Danny Borrell (1998-00) and Jason Kramer (1992-95) all sit in 10th all-time with 37.

Milestone Watch- 100-Hit Club
Wake Forest is just one of two teams in the nation with four active players that have tallied at least 100 hits during their collegiate careers:

Bobby Seymour- 191
Chris Lanzilli- 172
Michael Ludowig- 124
Shane Muntz- 124

Seymour is set to become the 28th player in Wake Forest history to join the 200-Hit club as the junior is just 9 base hits away from the mark.

Jake Mueller (2016-19) was the last Deac to reach the mark with 203 base hits.

Michael Turconi is currently 6 hits from joining the 100-hit crew, as the sophomore has recorded 94 hits through 87 career games.

Wilken Off To Historic Start
Freshman Brock Wilken has smashed 10 home runs, the most by a true freshman in the nation.

The Valrico, Fla. native became the second Wake Forest batter this decade to reach the double-digit mark in just 25 games, joining Brendan Tinsman (2019) with 10 blasts.

Through his first eight games, he posted the most home runs by a freshman Demon Deacon since Carlos Lopez in 2009.

The Valrico, Fla. native needs eight more home runs in the Deacs' 21 remaining games to set the freshman record held by Jamie D'Antona in 2001.

Seven of his 10 home runs have come in Wake Forest's 10 wins. Additionally, he has posted a pair of two-home run games in a span of four games.

Long Ball Powering Offense
Currently, the Deacs lead the ACC in home runs per game, hitting 37 in 25 games (1.48 average) so far in 2021.

Against Virginia Tech on April 11, Wake Forest launched five home runs, the sixth time this season with at least three HR's in a single game. Bobby Seymour led the Deacs with two home runs, marking the third time in his career posting a multi-HR game. His solo shot in the bottom of the seventh traveled 490 feet.

During their 6-3 win in the series finale at Louisville, a trio of home runs from Adam Cecere, Chris Lanzilli and Brock Wilken marked the fifth game of the 2021 season that Wake Forest has  hit at least three home runs.

In their last non-conference win against Appalachian State on March 30, the Deacs totaled a season-high 15 runs on 12 hits, including six home runs, the most in a game since 2017.

Wilken, Michael Ludowig and Shane Muntz hit back-to-back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth inning, the first time the Deacs hit three consecutive home runs since Wake Forest accomplished this feat against Division II C.W. Post on March 26, 1991.

Following his solo home run against the Mountaineers, Muntz smashed a ball out of Jim Patterson Stadium in the first two games against Louisville, the second time in his career the catcher has gone at least three-consecutive games with a home run since he did so four times at the tail end of the 2019 season.

Floridian Freshmen In Midst of Hit Streaks
The freshmen duo of Lucas Costello and Brock Wilken extended their hit streaks to 12 and 10 games, respectively, in Sunday's series finale against Virginia Tech.

Over Costello's team-best 12 game streak, the Miami, Fla. native has totaled 16 hits, 12 RBIs, four HRs and 11 runs scored. Batting leadoff for the Deacs, Costello is hitting .320 over the last 12 games and has tallied a hit in 17-of-23 contests he has received playing time.

Wilken, a Valrico, Fla. native, has been on a tear in Wake Forest's last 10 games. The third baseman is batting .400 with 16 hits, 14 RBIs, six HRs, five walks and 13 runs scored. Wilken, who has started all 25 games this season, has nine games with at least two hits and only five contests where he has been held hitless.

Last Time Out
The Deacs' late comeback in their last game against Virginia Tech came up just short as Wake Forest fell 10-9 in the series finale at David F. Couch Ballpark on Sunday, April 11.

Wake Forest scored on five home runs off the bats of four Demon Deacons, with Bobby Seymour leading the way with two round-trippers of his own. Lucas Costello started the game with a lead-off bomb in the first inning, while Shane Muntz added a solo-shot in the fourth inning. Brock Wilken's two-run blast pulled the Deacs within one run in the ninth, but the late heroics were not quite enough to give Wake Forest the edge.

Virginia Tech was kept scoreless in the final three frames by the bullpen trio of Hunter Furtado, Camden Minacci and Eric Adler. The three freshmen held Virginia Tech to just one hit across those three innings, keeping the Deacs within striking distance as the game entered its final stretch.

Opponent & Series History
Wake Forest leads the all-time series against the Mountaineers by a tally of 46-15, highlighted by a 15-7 victory on March 30 in Winston-Salem. In the win, the Deacs blasted six home runs, the most since 2017 and launched back-to-back-to-back solo shots for the first time since 1991 courtesy of Brock Wilken, Michael Ludowig and Shane Muntz.

Additionally, Wake Forest held an eight-game win streak over the 2015-19 seasons. During the streak, the Deacs outscored the Mountaineers by a tally of 73-45 and reached double figures in five of those games.

On Deck
The Demon Deacons continue their road trip for a Big 4 Matchup in Durham, N.C., against the Duke Blue Devils in a three-game series on April 16-18.

Wake Forest will then hit the road at Davidson on April 20 before closing out the trip at Clemson for an ACC series from April 23-25.
