Omar Hernandez Named TopDrawerSoccer Player of the Week

The sophomore takes home the national honor after recording his second brace of the season in a 3-2 victory over Coastal Carolina.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest men's soccer sophomore Omar Hernandez has been named TopDrawerSoccer's Player of the Week after his brace helped lead the Demon Deacons to a 3-2 victory over Coastal Carolina in the second round of the 2020 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship.
The Dalton, Ga., native opened up scoring in the 15th minute by putting home a shot from outside the 18-yard box to beat Chanticleers goalkeeper Tor Saunders.
Then in the 49th minute, Hernandez once again beat Saunders by creating space for himself at the top of the 18 before logging his second brace in as many home matches.
Over Wake Forest's last four matches, Hernandez has collected five goals. On the season, he has six goals and two assists for 14 points in 16 appearances.
Wake Forest returns to action on Thursday night, facing Kentucky in a Round of 16 showdown. The match will begin at 9 p.m. from WakeMed Field #2 in Cary, N.C.
