Anna Brylin knocks off No. 20 Kowalski to give the Demon Deacons their lone point in the Round of 32 matchup against the No. 3 Bulldogs.
ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 31 Wake Forest women's tennis team gave No. 3 Georgia all it could handle before falling, 4-1, Saturday in Athens, Ga.
This marked the first time since March the Bulldogs dropped a point in a match and Georgia (22-1) only dropped two points at home this season during conference play.
After dropping the opening set 6-0, Anna Brylin showed incredible fight to come from behind and grab a win on court three. Trailing 5-3 in the second set, Brylin came all the way back to capture a second set victory 7-6 (7-1).
She continued the momentum into the third set cruising to a 6-0 third-set victory over No. 20 Kowalski, her highest ranked win in her collegiate career.
Casie Wooten nearly captured her second NCAA Tournament win on the weekend as she was up 5-1 in the third set and just a few points away from putting the second point on the board for the Demon Deacons (12-12).
Despite a strong battle from the Demon Deacons during doubles, the Bulldogs took the opening point of the match. On court one with Carolyn Campana and on court three with Peyton Pesavento and Anna Campana, the Deacs were close throughout.
Like Friday, court three took an early advantage in their match, opening up with a 2-1 lead before eventually falling 6-3.
Omirou and Carolyn Campana looked to be in a battle to the end when their match went unfinished at 5-3 on court one.

Quotable from Coach Wyshner
"One of the things we have felt all year is that we have been better than people have given us credit for. There have been a lot of coach's polls, a lot of USTA polls, and everything. We played at different times of the year without different people and had people coming back late in January, and pandemic stuff, stoppages and all that. This type of match and this type of situation was our opportunity to tell our story. That is what we talked about last night, which was to let people know how good we are. Quite honestly let people know how good the ACC is … Credit to Georgia, we wanted to push them into third sets and push them into a tough situation, and maybe get them to think about it a little bit. We did that and then Katrina (Jokic) at number one stepped up and got through to get that second set to keep herself out there. Morgan (Coppoc) at number four played as clean a tennis set as you possibly can. We said to Eliza (Omirou) who is our only senior- you did not do anything wrong in that set; we lost four deuce points. It was a battle out there for much of that set. Morgan played so much cleaner and just perfect tennis that set compared to things that I explained earlier. They are a great team; it was so much fun. I appreciated the Georgia crowd honestly. It was so much fun to play in that environment. I hope my players recognized their ability to make that crowd quiet sometimes and so it was a great match. I am really proud of our team. We did not give up after a slow start and not our best doubles point. It was a good college tennis match and a great college tennis environment, and a tough one to lose."
