
Wake Forest Opens Exhibition Action with 2-0 Shutout of Furman

Second half goals by Chase Oliver and Omar Hernandez gave Wake Forest the 2-0 victory.
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The No. 7 ranked Wake Forest men's soccer team on Sunday night defeated Furman 2-0 at Stone Stadium. After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, sophomore Chase Oliver and junior Omar Hernandez notched goals in the second half to give Wake Forest a 2-0 victory.
Wake Forest opened the exhibition with four freshmen in a mixed Starting XI in Nicolas Mancilla, Tareq Shihab, Roald Mitchell and Leo Guarino. Neither the Demon Deacons nor the Paladins were able to score in the first half, as Wake Forest held a five-to-four shot advantage.
Wake Forest started an entirely different eleven to open up the second half before Oliver found the back of the net in the 47th minute. Then in the 84th-minute, Hernandez scored off of a free kick to give the Demon Deacons the 2-0 victory.
Goalkeepers Cole McNally and Trace Alphin combined for the shutout.
The Demon Deacons will host their second and final exhibition before the 2021 season next Saturday against Coastal Carolina at Spryt Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
