No. 14 Wake Forest Closes Homestand by Hosting Ohio State and No. 24 James Madison

The Deacs are set for a pair of non-conference matches this weekend at Kentner Stadium.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 14 Wake Forest field hockey team is set to close out their homestand with a pair of weekend matches against Ohio State (Sept. 10) and No. 24 James Madison (Sept. 12) at Kentner Stadium.
The Deacs (1-2) look to build upon their first victory of the season against a pair of 3-1 opponents in the Buckeyes and Dukes.
Sunday's ranked battle between the Deacs and Dukes will be shown live on ACC Network. Leah Secondo and Mike Corey will be on the call.

Last Time Out
No. 11 Wake Forest opened its home slate of the 2021 season with a strong 5-1 victory over Appalachian State on Saturday afternoon at Kenter Stadium.
The Demon Deacons trailed early as the Mountaineers found the back of the net in the first period. Undaunted, Wake Forest rattled off five unanswered goals over the next 54:05 of game action, led by Hannah Maxwell's career-high three goals to earn the program's 29th-straight win over Appalachian State. The other Demon Deacons scores were registered by Elisha Evans (third period) and Abby Carpenter (fourth period).
Wake Forest responded after allowing the first-period goal with stifling defense and ball control. The Deacs didn't allow an Appalachian State shot attempt over the next 42:17.
Opponent & Series history
The Deacs hold an all-time record of 5-2 versus the Buckeyes. while having a 11-3 record over the Dukes.
Wake Forest heads into the non-conference matchups on winning streaks against both teams:
• Three-match winning streak, Ohio State
• Six-match winning streak, James Madison
Additionally, this marks the first time Wake Forest will hit the turf against both opponents since the 2017 season.
Hatty for Hannah
Hannah Maxwell produced a hat trick of goals in the Demon Deacons' first victory of the season against Appalachian State on Sept. 4, setting a new career high.
With her three goals, Maxwell became the first Demon Deacon to notch three goals and tally six points in a single game since Jule Grashoff in 2016.
The Streak Continues
Wake Forest was ranked No. 14 in the second National Field Hockey coaches Association Poll of the 2021 season, marking the 29th-straight pool the Deacs have been ranked. The third top-25 poll will be released on Sept. 14.
Last season, the Deacs rose all the way to No. 9, it's highest ranking in school history.
Wake Forest Storylines
The Deacs return 17 players from the 2020-21 spring roster, including All-American and 2021 Preseason All-ACC honoree Meike Lanckohr as well as All-Region and All-ACC selections Laia Vancells and Nat Friedman.
Every single Demon Deacon who hit the turf in the ACC Automatic Qualifier Game against the Tar Heels is returning this season.
On Deck
Wake Forest travels to Durham for their first conference contest of the season against No. 12 Duke on Sept. 17 at 4:00 p.m.
The Deacs will then play two-matches at Kentner against UMass (Sept. 19) on ACC Network and Virginia (Sept. 24) on ACC Network Extra.
