The Demon Deacons will now turn their attention to the ACC Championship in two weeks.
EARLYSVILLE, Va. – In the regular season finale for both programs, the Wake Forest men's and women's cross country teams both recorded top-five finishes at the annual Panorama Farms XC 23 Invitational Saturday.
Wake Forest joined host Virginia as the only schools to have both programs (men and women) finish in the top-five.
Despite missing last season's regional runner-up Aaron Las Heras, three Deacs finished in the top-10 in the men's 8k. Wake Forest was paced by two-time All-American Zach Facioni, who finished second overall (23:11.5). Thomas Vanoppen (23:18.4) and Luke Tewalt (23:24.7) joined Facioni in the top-10 placing fourth and ninth, respectively.
Joaquin Martinez De Pinillos (23:32.4) and Ben Mitchell (23:46.6) also had solid performances as they finished 11th and 22nd, respectively.
In the women's 5k, Wake Forest placed fifth out of 17 teams. The Demon Deacons were led by senior Mackenna Curtis-Collins, who finished 10th (17:01.4).
Fellow senior Elise Wright (17:27.4) and junior Madeline Rehm (17:34.7) also both finished in the top-35.

On both teams finishing in the top-five:
"We learned a lot about both our men's and women's teams today. We have a few things that need to be fixed, but we are confident and excited for the next few weeks."
On the men's team winning the invitational crown:
"The men ran very well. We had to have guys step up with Aaron (Las Heras) out this week and they did. They've handled themselves very well so far this year. We are in a good position heading into the championship season."
Associate head coach Ashley Bastron
On the women's team placing fifth:
"The women had an average day. We had some strong individual performances, but collectively, as a team, there was room for improvement. Our top-five spread has been really tight all season and it was too large today. That's a simple fix before ACC's in two weeks, and I'm confident the women will rise to the occasion. We remain focused on the process and are ready to get back to work."
