Vanoppen Sets School Record at Camel City Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Graduate student Thomas Vanoppen set a new school record in the men's indoor mile, pacing to a 4:01.25 mark in the final day of the Camel City Invite at the JDL Fast Track.
In both days of the Camel City Invitational it was the Demon Deacon field team that took center stage with impressive weight throw marks on Friday and both the men's and women's obtaining spots on the podium on Saturday.
It is with these performances that Wake Forest concludes their third meet in their home town of Winston-Salem.
RUNNERS TALLY IMPRESSIVE MARKS
Thomas Vanoppen closed out the day and the meet for the Demon Deacons with a 5th place finish in the Men's Mile by obtaining a personal best of 4:01.25.
The Demon Deacons had three impressive finishes on the women's side of things. Mackenna Curtis-Collins finished 9th running in the Women's Elite 3000M. About an hour later Amy Harding-Delooze finished 3rd in the Women's 1 Mile with her teammates Rylee Kopchak and Alli Boehm finishing 9th and 18th.
FIELD ATHLETES ALL PLACE IN TOP 10
In the men's Shot Put the trio of Thomas Kitchell, Mason Ellis, and Connor Mathis placed 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively. All three recorded a throw of over 15.6 meters with Kitchell exceeding 16 meters.
The women's shot put quartet did one better as Janese Lynch, Chanel Dawson, Isabella Gera, and Ashlyn Giles occupied the top 4 spots on the leaderboard in the order written previously. Lynch, Dawson and Gera who all ended the day on the podium made throws of over 14 meters.
