WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Graduate student Jakob Schnaitter won a clutch match to clinch the match point as the 10th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team downed No. 7 Georgia, 4-3, and NC Central, 6-1 on Sunday at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
The win was the Deacs (13-1) first over a top-10 opponent this season and third-straight over Georgia (3-1) in a series dating back to 1972. The Deacs improved their already impressive record at home to 92-4 since the 2017 season with two wins.
No. 85 Schnaitter picked up the clutch three-set clinch in the first match over No. 7 Georgia. Against NC Central, No. 117 Robert Maciag gathered that honor to roll past the Eagles.
Quotable
"Started the day off in a battle. I knew we were ready and excited to go. I thought we played solid doubles points. Filippo Moroni had five match points to make a 4-0 win. You have to give a lot of credit to Georgia for a lot of heart and not giving up. They made it tough at the end winning four three-setters but we were able to pull out one of them in the end. Credit to the team for being tough and battling hard. It is a rough turnaround playing the afternoon match after playing in an emotional match. The team did a great job taking care of business and being professional. It is good to get a couple wins. We have a couple tough road tests next weekend." - Coach Bresky
