No. 7 Deacs Snaps No. 27 Louisville's Home Win Streak

4/3/2022 3:43:00 PM | Men's Tennis

LOUISVILLE, KY. – No. 7 Wake Forest men's tennis team won early and often in its 4-0 win over No. 27 Louisville at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center Sunday evening, snapping their 11-match home win streak.

Wake Forest (24-5, 7-1 ACC) won the doubles point for the 20th time this season and improved to 19-1 when taking a 1-0 advantage with a doubles victory. The Deacs also rolled to three singles wins over Louisville (15-7, 7-3 ACC), with all three of those victories coming in straight sets.

Quotable
"I'm proud of the team today. They came out to a red-hot Louisville squad that has not lost at home all season long and swept them. I thought doubles really started the day on a strong note as we competed well. To come out in singles and win five first sets and finish what we started was huge. Now, we play the next eight matches at home and we are excited to get to play in front of our fans." - Coach Bresky

How It Happened
In doubles action to begin the day, Wake Forest used victories on courts two and three to take the doubles point and grab a 1-0 advantage in the match. The 16th-ranked pairing of Siddhant Banthia and Jakob Schnaitter cruised out to a 6-1 win on court two over Louisville's Natan Rodrigues / Sergio Hernandez.

The clinch came on court three, as Wake Forest's doubles tandem of Ben Draper and Matthew Thomson earned a 6-3 triumph over the Cardinal's Matthew Fung and Alex Wesbrooks, 6-3.

In singles play, Wake Forest's first win came on court two as Rrezart Cungu vanquished Josh Howard-Tripp of Louisville in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

The Deacs' lead was extended to 3-0 as No. 34 Eduardo Nava rolled past the nation's 117th-ranked singles player, Etienne Donnet, 6-3, 6-4. The win gives Nava the fourth ranked win of the dual season.
