Kern, Pihlkar Earn All-ACC Honors on Day 1

DURHAM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest track & field program had two scoring performances and two athletes advanced to running finals on the opening day of the 2022 ACC Outdoor Championships Thursday at Morris William Stadium.
First Points
Jack Pihlkar was the first to tally points for the Demon Deacons as he placed sixth in the men's hammer throw Thursday afternoon with a 62.86m mark. The result marked his first career Second Team All-ACC honor. Andrew White closely finished behind Pihlkar with a seventh place finish, earning a 59.94m mark.
Four For Kern
Senior Rachel Kern picked up her fourth All-ACC honor of her career, taking fifth place in the women's javelin event with a toss of 51.85m, a personal best.
Moving On
The 1500m squad had a pair of athletes advance past prelims. Thomas Vanoppen ran a time of 3:45.47 in the 1500-meter event, placing first in his heat which puts him in the final on Saturday. Luke Tewalt also grabbed a timed qualifying spot, finishing eighth in the 1500-meter prelims with a mark of 3:46.14.
Vanoppen and Tewalt will run the 1500-meter final at approximately 5:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night.

Senior Anna Bush sits fourth in the heptathlon with a Day 1 total of 3,421 points. The Australia native began the meet with a PR in the high jump, shot put and 200-meter race. Addison Berry sits right behind her teammate Bush in fifth place after Day 1 with 3,343 points. She has PR'd in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump and 200-meter run.
