No. 9 Wake Forest Set to Compete in Cowboy Jamboree

The Demon Deacons will look to build upon a solid start to the 2022 season.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The ninth-ranked Wake Forest men's cross country team will continue its championship quest Saturday when the Demon Deacons travel to Stillwater, Okla., to compete in the Cowboy Jamboree hosted by Oklahoma State.
Saturday's meet will feature eight of the top-10 men's cross country teams in the nation.
Meet Information
Action will start with the women's 6K at 8:45 a.m. ET. The men's 8k will begin immediately following the conclusion of the women's 6K. Saturday's meet will not be streamed, but live results can be viewed HERE.
For Demon Deacon fans traveling to the meet, spectator parking will be held at O'Brate Stadium with shuttles running to the course every 20 minutes starting at 8:00 a.m. ET.

Demon Deacon Quick Hits
- The Wake Forest men's cross country team was selected to win the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) this season.
- The Demon Deacons, seeking the program's fifth ACC title and first since 1994, received eight first-place votes and finished with 210 total points.
- Wake Forest placed just ahead of two-time defending ACC champion Notre Dame (five first-place votes, 205 points). North Carolina (193 points) and Virginia (164) each picked up one first-place vote to round out the top four.
- The Deacs were also selected to win the NCAA Southeast Regional title this season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
- This year, the Demon Deacons are led by two-time All-American Zach Facioni and last season's regional runner-up Aaron Las Heras. Wake Forest also returns All-Region honorees Luke Tewalt, Joaquin Martinez de Pinillos and Thomas Vanoppen.
- The 10th-ranked Wake Forest men's cross country team had a solid showing last Friday at the Adidas XC Challenge to open the 2022 slate as Rynard Swanepoel, Joe Pearl and Andrew Kivett all turned in top-30 finishes in the men's 6k for the Demon Deacons.
- Wake Forest was paced by Swanepoel who finished 11th, running 18:18.1. Pearl (18:40.1) and Kivett (18:48.8) joined Swanepoel in the top-30 as they finished 24th and 27th, respectively.
- Swanepoel, Pearl and Kivett each posted their personal best in the 6k as the dynamic trio were the only Demon Deacons to compete Friday.
- Wake Forest was the only team to have each of its runners finish in the top-30.
Hayes at the Helm
- Wake Forest, led by director of track & field and cross country John Hayes, will look to build upon a strong 2021 campaign in which it took the team title at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships, marking the best regional finish for the program since 1993.
- With taking the top spot in the regional, the Demon Deacons punched their ticket to the NCAA Championships for the second time since 2001.
