
Wake Forest Poised for Bob Pollock Invitational

The Deacs will return to the state of South Carolina for another highly-anticipated meet.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After posting a combined six top-three finishes between the two programs a week ago at the Carolina Challenge, the Wake Forest men's and women's indoor track & field teams will travel to Clemson, S.C., to compete in the Bob Pollock Invitational.
Action will begin at 9 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday and will run until competition has concluded for the day.
The meet will be streamed on ACC Network Extra both days and live results will be available here.
Last Week's Top-Five Finishes
The Wake Forest men's and women's track & field teams continued their stellar 2023 campaign last weekend as the Demon Deacons posted a combined six top-three finishes between the two programs at the Carolina Challenge.
Graduate student Andrew White led the charge as he recorded the second-best weight throw distance in school history.
In the women's shot put, Amanda Schaare (14.95m) and Ashlyn Giles (14.55m) finished second and third, respectively. Additionally, Casey Sullivan (13.43) finished sixth making Wake Forest the only team to have three throwers finish in the top six in the event.
The Demon Deacons also recorded two top-five finishes in the women's long jump as Anna Bush (5.77m) and Robbie Grace (5.60m) finished fourth and fifth. Of note, Wake Forest joined Tennessee as the only teams to have two competitors finish in the top-five. Senior Emma Soderstrom also had an excellent day as she placed third in the high jump with a mark of 1.65m.
For the men, Wake Forest went first and second in the weight throw as White (21.08m) and Thomas Kitchell (18.48m) both had stellar outings. Of note, White's distance marked the second best performance in school history. Additionally, in the men's shot put, Kitchell finished second with a mark of 18.07m.
Familiar Faces
Wake Forest will look to build upon a solid 2022 campaign as the Demon Deacons return six indoor track & field All-ACC honorees and five outdoor track & field All-ACC honorees from a season ago between the men's and women's programs.
In 2023, the Wake Forest men's track & field team return First-Team All-American and ACC Champion Thomas Vanoppen. Last season, Vanoppen placed fourth in the 1500m at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, becoming the first Wake Forest outdoor All-American since Robert Heppenstall in 2018 and the first 1500m All-American since Kyle Graves in 2015.
In addition to Vanoppen, the Demon Deacon men return Zach Facioni who collected Second-Team All-American honors a season ago, along with three indoor All-ACC honorees (Thomas Kitchell, Andrew White and Rynard Swanepoel).
For the women, Wake Forest returns Anna Bush and Emma Soderstrom as they both earned All-American honorable mention honors last season at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, finishing 18th in the heptathlon and 23rd in the high jump, respectively. Additionally, the Deacs will return All-ACC selection Addison Berry.
