Moroni, Suresh Ekambaram and Koons Set for ITA National Fall Championships

Wake Forest is one of only four programs nationally to have multiple singles players qualify for the annual tournament.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After several historic performances at the ITA Carolina Regional, senior Filippo Moroni, sophomore DK Suresh Ekambaram and graduate student Holden Koons of the Wake Forest men's tennis team will travel to compete at the ITA National Fall Championships this week in San Diego, Calif.
 
The tournament is slated to run from Wednesday, Nov. 1 to Sunday, Nov. 5. Action can be streamed via Cracked Racquets and Track Tennis.

Dynamic Duo
Moroni and Suresh Ekambaram both qualified for the ITA National Fall Championships after reaching the singles final of the ITA Carolina Regional a week ago. Of note, Wake Forest is one of only four programs nationally (Ohio State, Oklahoma State and TCU) to have multiple singles players qualify for the annual tournament.
 
Last Time Out (ITA Carolina Regional)
Moroni went a stellar 6-0 in singles play over the first four days of action at the ITA Carolina Regional, before facing Suresh Ekambaram in the final last Tuesday evening. Both Demon Deacons competed relentlessly, but Moroni went on to earn a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Suresh Ekambaram to win the singles championship.
 
En route to last Tuesday's final, Suresh Ekambaram earned six-consecutive singles victories, including wins over No. 4 seed Karl Poling and No. 7 seed Sean Daryabeigi, respectively.

In doubles play, the Demon Deacons were led by the pairings of Holden Koons/Suresh Ekambaram and Harry Thursfield/Luca Pow as both teams reached the semifinals. Of note, Thursfield/Pow knocked off No. 6 seed Dias/Van Wyk in the round of 64.
 
About the ITA National Fall Championships
The ITA National Fall Championships are the grand finale to the fall collegiate tennis season and features 64 of the nation's top collegiate singles players (32 men and 32 women) and 64 doubles teams (32 men's team and 32 women's teams). The event is in its seventh year, having replaced the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, beginning in 2017.

Players qualify for the ITA National Fall Championships through the ITA Regional Championships, ITA All-American Championships, Milwaukee Tennis Classic, as well as the ITA Cup.

Wake Forest will host the second rendition of the Wake Forest Invitational, starting on Nov. 3.
