
Wake Forest to Host First Midweek Matchup Against Hokies Before Traveling to NC State

Week four of conference play has arrived for Demon Deacon Volleyball.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest volleyball (13-4, 4-2) will split time at home and on the road through the next few days, having stepped into the fourth week of Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) competition.
The Demon Deacons are set to host Virginia Tech (11-6, 1-5) on Wednesday (Oct. 11) at 7 p.m. ET for a first midweek matchup of the year. Friday evening (Oct. 13) will see Wake Forest in nearby Raleigh for a 7 p.m. ET road test at NC State.
Both matches can be viewed on ACC Network Extra. Wednesday's home contest will feature the team's 'Pride Day' match theme.
Standing at fifth place in the ACC standings, Wake Forest is coming off a weekend sweep in their first conference road matches of the year at Boston College (Oct. 6) and Syracuse (Oct. 8).

On the road for the first time in ACC play within the 2023 season, Wake Forest volleyball played with composure and confidence on Friday night (Oct. 6), coming back in four sets to knock off Boston College (12-7, 1-4) in a 3-1 finish.
The Demon Deacons (12-4, 3-2) handed the Eagles' their first home loss of the year, as the team was 7-0 heading into the evening. Additionally, the win was Wake Forest's third straight over Boston College in the all-time series.
Emmy Ogogor was an efficient, two-way anchor for the Black and Old Gold. The fifth-year middle blocker totaled 12 kills on a .333 hitting clip while tallying a season-best eight blocks.
Emma Farrell showcased her full package of defensive prowess, piecing a new season high of 24 digs. The standout libero was also close to notching a double-double (nine assists).
Paige Crawford led the Deacs in kills for a 10th time this fall, finishing with 16 (also a match high). The sophomore impressed defensively with eight digs and three blocks.
Kalani Whillock chipped in a season-best 17 digs, along with two service aces. Ava Torrance added 10 digs.
Rian Baker recorded another strong all-around performance: 28 assists, eight digs, four kills and four blocks. Dior Charles tied her season high in blocks (7).
Ashley Slater gave a spark with her powerful hitting, contributing seven kills and four blocks, both of which were season bests.
Wake Forest's 15 blocks as a team was a season high.
Sunday, Oct. 8 – Wake Forest 3, Syracuse 1
Redirecting its focus to a Sunday (Oct. 8) road test at Syracuse, Wake Forest got the deed done during the afternoon, once again winning three consecutive sets en route to a 3-1 victory.
It was ultimately the Demon Deacons' first win over Syracuse since Oct. 4, 2019.
Showing up big on her birthday, Ashley Slater produced a monster performance in her hitting – striking an exceptional .706 attacking percentage and going 12-of-17 from the floor with zero errors. It was the highest hitting clip by a Wake Forest individual this season, along with a new season high in kills for Slater.
Ava Carney led all players in kills (18) while adding five digs and three blocks.
The Deacon defense again impressed with totals in digs, as four players had eight or more: Emma Farrell (12), Ava Torrance (12), Kylie Adams (8 - career high) and Kalani Whillock (8).
Rian Baker and Adams handed out 26 and 23 assists, respectively. The former added six digs and two service aces to her final line.
Emmy Ogogor produced nine kills (.412), a team-high five blocks, and four digs. Paige Crawford contributed nine kills of her own.

Wake Forest's 'Pride Day' theme match on Wednesday (Oct. 11) will be a partnership collaboration with the Wake Forest University LGBTQ+ Center. The first 100 fans will receive a 'Pride' t-shirt – available at the Fan Experience table outside of Varsity Arena.

Wake Forest received strong recognition from the conference office earlier this week on Monday afternoon (Oct. 9) when sophomore libero Emma Farrell was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
This is Farrell's second Defensive Player of the Week nod of 2023, after receiving the initial honor following week one. The Norcross, Georgia native now holds four ACC weekly awards up to date throughout her young career – the highest total for a Wake Forest individual in the head coach Randi Smart era.

For the weekend, Farrell averaged 4.5 digs-per-set, totaling 36 in eight frames. She currently stands 10th among all conference individuals within that category in 2023 (per Oct. 9), resting at a 3.75 mark.
Climbing the Ladder
Wake Forest recently took a leap in rankings for blocks, moving up to fifth in the ACC team standings. The Deacon defense is currently averaging 2.22 blocks-per-set.
Additionally, a quartet of Wake Forest players remain top-10 conference players within different statistical columns.
