Wake Forest to Host Second Spring Doubleheader at Home

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Coming off an appearance in the 14th annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kickoff Weekend, Wake Forest women's tennis (2-2) returns to its indoor center this Sunday (Feb. 5), hosting a second doubleheader of the 2023 spring season.

Old Dominion and Campbell are set to come to Winston-Salem. Sunday will feature the second meeting in eight days between the Demon Deacons and Monarchs, who faced last Saturday (Jan. 28) in a consolation outing.

Live stats and live streaming will be available for both matches of the doubleheader.

Admission to all Wake Forest tennis matches are free of charge.

This weekend marks the start of a five-match homestand for Wake Forest.
 

The Matches

Sunday, Feb. 5 – Wake Forest vs. Old Dominion – 10 a.m. ET

Sunday, Feb. 5 – Wake Forest vs. Campbell – 2:30 p.m. ET


Last Time Out

This past weekend (Jan. 27-28), the Deacs partook in the 14th annual ITA Kickoff Weekend, hosted by Ohio State University. 
 

Friday, Jan. 27 – Tennessee 4, Wake Forest 0

Taking on its first major test of the 2023 spring campaign, Wake Forest women's tennis faced No. 22 Tennessee last Friday (Jan. 27) in the 14th annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kickoff Weekend's opening day.

The Demon Deacons (2-1) gave collective effort but ultimately fell to the Volunteers (1-0) in a 4-0 sweep.

No. 27 Casie Wooten, Anna Brylin, and Brooke Killingsworth all competed against ranked foes once singles action unfolded.

Wake Forest moved to a 17-15 all-time record versus Tennessee.
 

Saturday, Jan. 28 – Old Dominion 4, Wake Forest 3

Finishing its out-of-state, weekend slate on Saturday night (Jan. 28), the Wake Forest women's tennis team battled against the Old Dominion Monarchs (3-1) in a consolation matchup within the 14th annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kickoff Weekend, held on the campus grounds of Ohio State University.

The Demon Deacons (2-2) competed through hours of dual match play before suffering a 4-3 defeat versus Old Dominion. The doubles point firstly went toward the way of Wake Forest, along with two singles wins, as the match's scoring column became evened on several occasions.

Saturday night featured the third solo wins of the year for Anna Brylin and Nevena Carton. Additionally, in doubles, Brylin/Brooke Killingsworth now hold a 3-0 record in 2023.

Wake Forest is now 11-3 all-time versus the Monarchs.


Serve Up the Grammys!

Playing on the same day of the 65th annual Grammy Awards, Wake Forest will hold a such theme within its tennis center throughout Sunday, playing Grammy-themed music. Additionally, tennis wristbands will be available for early-arriving spectators.

Scouting the Opposition

Following a 1-1 showing at last weekend's ITA Kickoff event, Old Dominion moved to 3-1 overall on the year. Four of the Monarchs' seven players are ranked:

  • No. 37 – Tatsiana Sasnouskaya (ITA Singles)

  • No. 52 – Allison Isaacs/Alexandra Viktorovich (ITA Doubles)

  • No. 112 – Shahar Biran (ITA Singles)

Biran paces Old Dominion with a 3-0 solo record in dual play. Sasnouskaya and Sofia Johnson have teamed up in doubles to mark a 3-1 record thus far.
 

Campbell stands at a 1-2 clip, having most recently downed UNC Greensboro (Jan. 28) in a 4-3 finish. The Campbells are underclassmen heavy, as six of the nine roster members are either freshmen or sophomores. Anna-Marie Kopecka and Abbie Tyler pace the team in doubles, holding a 2-1 record at the No. 1 spot. Kopecka, Mialy Ranaivo, and Lena Karlovcan all have picked up a singles win apiece. Campbell was selected third in the 2023 Big South women's tennis preseason poll after having a regular-season runner-up finish in spring 2022.

Wake Forest will remain in its own backyard for a third weekend doubleheader of the spring next Saturday (Feb. 11), hosting Furman and UNC Greensboro.
