
No. 25 Wake Forest Set to Open ACC Play

The Demon Deacons are set to face their first true road tests with matches against No. 69 Georgia Tech and No. 44 Clemson.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Coming off a pair of victories at home on Tuesday, the 25th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team will travel for its first two ACC matches of the 2023 season at No. 69 Georgia Tech and No. 44 Clemson this weekend.
This marks the first time the Deacs will be playing as visitors this season and first time playing outside of Winston-Salem since the ITA National Team Indoor Championships two weeks ago. Of note, Wake Forest went 5-1 in road matches against ACC foes last season, outscoring its opponents 24-9.
The Deacs finished with an 11-1 conference record in 2022 and hold a 53-3 record in ACC play dating back to 2017.
This season, Wake Forest owns a 13-2 (86.7 percent) record in first singles with Filippo Moroni (7-0) and Melios Efstathiou (6-2) leading the way for the Demon Deacons.

Last Time Out
Wake Forest claimed a pair of victories Tuesday, knocking off No. 27 VCU and Belmont-Abbey inside the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
With the victory over No. 27 VCU, Wake Forest earned its third top-30 win of the season. Additionally, the Demon Deacons improved to a stellar 16-0 against in-state opponents over the past two seasons with the win over Belmont Abbey.
Against the Rams, Wake Forest quickly fell behind as VCU took the doubles point with wins in first and third doubles.
The Rams then took a 2-0 lead with a victory in second singles before the Demon Deacons stormed back to even the ledger with wins on courts one and four, respectively. VCU then extended its lead to 3-2, but Wake Forest responded, taking sixth and third singles to clinch the match.
Less than an hour later, the Deacs squared off with in-state opponent Belmont Abbey and quickly earned the doubles point behind wins in second and third doubles.
Wake Forest went on to sweep the Crusaders, going a perfect 6-of-6 in singles action. Of note, freshman Saud Alhogbani improved to a perfect 3-0 with his 7-5, 6-2 win in fourth singles against Belmont Abbey.
The Matchup - No. 69 Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech enters Friday's match with a 9-5 record and an 8-2 record at home, including three-consecutive victories. The Yellow Jackets finished last season 10-14 (3-9 ACC), including a trip to the ACC Quarterfinals.

Friday will mark the 50th meeting between the Demon Deacons and the Yellow Jackets as Wake Forest owns a 25-24 record against Georgia Tech all-time. Additionally, the Deacs have claimed 12 of the last 13 meetings with the lone loss coming in the ACC Tournament last season.
The Matchup - No. 44 Clemson
Heading into the weekend, Clemson holds a 9-3 record (8-2 at home) and will play hosts to No. 39 NC State on Friday before Sunday's clash with the Demon Deacons.
Last season, Clemson finished with a 13-14 (2-10 ACC) record and earned a pair of victories in the ACC Tournament to reach the quarterfinals, including an upset victory over No. 22 Duke in the second round.
The match will be the 64th meeting between the two programs with Wake Forest holding a 34-29 edge in the all-time series matchup. Last season, the Demon Deacons earned their 12th-consecutive victory over the Tigers with a 6-1 decision in Winston-Salem.
Sustained Success
Wake Forest has made the NCAA Tournament in each of the past nine seasons, including the 2018 season, in which the Demon Deacons won the program's first ever NCAA Championship.
Since head coach Tony Bresky took over the program in 2012, the Deacs have accumulated 31 All-ACC honors. Of note, five Demon Deacons earned All-ACC honors last season, marking the most in a single season in program history.

The Demon Deacons will return home to face No. 15 Florida State and No. 43 Miami at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Friday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m., respectively.
