ATLANTA, Ga. – In its first ACC match of the 2023 campaign, the 25th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team earned a 6-1 decision over No. 69 Georgia Tech Friday evening inside the Ken Byers Tennis Complex in Atlanta, Ga.
With the victory, the Demon Deacons (14-5, 1-0 ACC) improved to 12-1 in ACC action over the past two seasons after going 11-1 in league play a year ago. Additionally, Friday's win improved the Deacs to a stellar 6-1 in their last seven ACC road matches, dating back to last season.
Wake Forest had another solid showing in doubles action Friday as the Deacs secured the doubles point behind victories in the first and third slots. Of note, No. 40 Filippo Moroni/Juan Lopez de Azcona earned an impressive victory over No. 21 Andres Martin/Marcus McDaniel in first doubles.
Up 1-0 early, the Demon Deacons went a stellar 5-1 in singles play with victories in first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth singles. The only court in which the Deacs dropped was third singles, due to retirement.
With Friday's result, Wake Forest is now 4-4 against ranked opponents to start the 2023 season. Additionally, with No. 37 Melios Efstathiou's win on court one, the Demon Deacons improved to 14-2 in first singles this season.

Coming into the match, we were uncertain whether we were playing indoors or outdoors, but we responded well and played a good match. We got the doubles point, which was huge heading into singles. We were up on each court before the lights went out but we showed resolve and closed it out. Now, we look forward to another ACC test at Clemson on Sunday." - Head coach Tony Bresky
