The Matchup
  • Wake Forest enters Monday night's match with a 1-0-2 overall record, most recently drawing 0-0 with No. 20 Maryland in the Deacs' first road match of the season last Friday.
  • In the top-20 showdown with Maryland, Wake Forest's Trace Alphin made the play of the night stopping a 72nd-minute penalty kick from the Terrapins' Stefan Coppeti.
  • Through the team's first three matches of the season, Wake Forest has beaten Grand Canyon 3-1 while drawing with Cal 1-1 and No. 20 Maryland 0-0.
  • Furman travels to Spry Stadium on eight days rest, last facing current No. 3 Duke on Aug. 27 in a 6-0 loss.
  • The Paladins opened the season with a 2-1 victory over defending CAA regular season champions Elon.
  • This will be the 20th all-time matchup against Furman with Wake Forest holding a 9-6-4 advantage in the all-time series.
  • Wake Forest is 5-4-2 all-time against Furman at Spry Stadium.
  • The last meeting between the two sides came during Wake Forest's 2007 National Championship season in a 1-0 victory on Oct. 28, 2007.
Last Time Out
  • In a highly anticipated matchup that was the first regular season meeting between the Demon Deacons and Terrapins in a decade, No. 16 Wake Forest and No. 20 Maryland played to a 0-0 draw on Friday night at Ludwig Field.
  • Seven Deacs recorded a shot against the Terrapins, but were unable to find the back of the net as Wake Forest thwarted 10 Maryland attempts on the night including three on goal.
  • In the 72nd minute, the Terrapins were awarded a penalty kick. Stefan Coppeti stepped to the spot for Maryland but Trace Alphin blocked his shot to the bottom right corner of the goal.
  • It was one of three saves on the night for Alphin, as Wake Forest tallied its first clean sheet of the 2023 season.
Making Spry The Toughest Environment To Play In
  • Including a season-opening victory over Grand Canyon, Wake Forest's record at Spry Stadium since 2015 is 95-16-7 as the Demon Deacons continually make it difficult for opposing teams to be comfortable while in Winston-Salem.
  • The 95 home victories over the last nine seasons are 19 more than any other NCAA Division I program (Indiana, 76) and 23 more than any other ACC school (Clemson, 72).
  • Wake Forest is unbeaten in 12-straight regular season matches against non-conference foes at Spry since a 4-0 result against William & Mary on Oct. 5, 2021. During the 12-match unbeaten streak, the Deacs have outscored opponents 39-7.
Scouting the Paladins
  • Furman will head to Winston-Salem with a 1-1-0 record in the early campaign, scoring a 2-1 victory over Elon in the season opener before falling to No. 3 Duke 6-0.
  • In the win against the Phoenix, Paladins midfielder Conor Dowler scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute to defeat the defending CAA regular season champions.
  • Highlighting a strong class of additions in 2023, Diego Hernandez was named to TopDrawerSoccer's Preseason Best XI Freshman Team while Dylan Lane and Jake Raine earned Preseason All-Southern Conference nods.
  • Consistently at the top of the SoCon standings, Furman has won either the conference regular season or tournament trophy five times since the 2014 season.
Looking Ahead
  • Wake Forest will compete in its ACC opener on Saturday evening, facing current No. 8 Pitt at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
  • Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the match will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
