1/27/2024 6:17:00 PM | Women's Tennis

Krystal Blanch and Casie Wooten picked up a dominant doubles victory.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team (1-2) fell in the opening match of the 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kick-Off Weekend, 4-0, to No. 20 San Diego (2-1) at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Fla. on Saturday (Jan. 27).

The Demon Deacons got off to a good start as sophomore Krystal Blanch and senior Casie Wooten earned a 6-2 win in second doubles, but the Wake Forest pairs on the other two courts dropped tight matches as San Diego took the doubles point.

From Coach Wyshner
"Tough match today. We knew San Diego was going to be very good. They had beaten the No. 2 team in the country 10 days ago. We needed to close out that doubles point, then who knows what would have happened since we were in good spots in the three singles matches that didn't get to finish. We didn't have any trouble playing outside after everything else was indoors up until this point, so I give the players a lot of credit that they were ready to battle and not looking for excuses. We have a quick turnaround against a team that had four first sets in singles today against No. 10 Florida, so it will be a gut check tomorrow"
